Setting a new speed record for a private jet flight from Chicago to London in only a little over seven hours at an average speed of Mach 0.85 the G450 was awarded certification from the civil aviation authority of the Commonwealth of Independent States in January 2006. November 2005 saw another high speed record flight achieved by flying from 3290nm from Washington to Luton England in just over six hours at an average speed of Mach 0.85. By September 2007 sixty eight aircraft were in service.

Performance
Fully loaded the G450 can carry nineteen passengers. With only eight passengers the aircraft has a range of 8000 km. Cruising at 45000 ft well above commercial flights and at speeds up to mach 0.88 (935km/hour)its near ceiling height of 41000 ft is attained in twenty three minutes. Taking off in 1660m and landing in 970m the aeroplane has a maximum take off weight set at 33,520kg and a landing weight at 29,935kg. The G350, G450, G500 and G550 business jets all share many of the aircraft systems and have the same pilot ratings necessary to fly.

Design
The aircraft has a rear engine, T-tail setup with low mounted wings. The airframe is of light alloy construction but utilizes advanced carbon composite ailerons, spoilers, rudders and elevator. The G450 has two Rolls Royce Tay Mark 611-8C turbofan engines each developing 61.6kN. The engines have full authority digital engine control and thrust reversers. There are three separately controlled temperature zones in the cabin with fresh air air-conditioning and twelve heated oval widows.

The aircraft design is a derivative of the GIV and GIV-SP but shares many features with the ultra long range G550. Both aircraft have the PlaneView cockpit with four large flight displays and the Honeywell Primus Epic avionics and visual guidance system (VGS). The G450 and G550 both have the Gulfstream enhanced visual guidance system (EVS).

Flight Deck
The PlaneView cockpit boasts four large liquid crystal flight displays, a Gulfstream enhanced vision system (EVS) with a Honeywell HUD 2020 head up display and a cursor control device. The EVS, developed by Gulfstream and Kollsman, is the first vision system of its type to be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration. The vision system gives the pilot a heightened level of situational awareness and allows greater safety.

In January 2008, the FAA certified the Gulfstream synthetic vision-primary flight display (SV-PFD) system and the Gulfstream / Kollsman second-generation EVS II for the G450. SV-PFD displays three-dimensional, colour terrain images from the Honeywell enhanced ground proximity warning system (EGPWS). EVS II is 10kg lighter with four times the computational power and memory of the previous EVS.

The aircraft is commissioned with a Honeywell Primus Epic avionics suite. All the avionics systems are installed forward of the cabin door.

Cabin
The cabin can seat up to 19 passengers and can be customised to an individual clients specification. Among features specified by previous owners are stateroom, showers, exercise equipment galleys for cooking, satellite telephones links including broadband internet, TV and so on.
